Christ The King Lutheran Church

Lent is meant to be a season of repentance. When Jesus preached he didn’t spend a lot of time on “caring” because he came with a much more urgent message. REPENT! Jesus spoke many words of comfort, but more frequently he challenged his hearers, urging them to turn to God in humility and admit their sins. The more we see the depth of our own sin, the more we see the height of the love God has for us. The companion of repentance is gratitude and an opportunity for joy. We can live our lives grateful for a loving God and responding to that love by loving others. Knowing our own sin, we pray for all sinners, asking God to show them the mercy he has given so abundantly to us.

GOSPEL LESSON: Luke 13:1-9 ….^3”I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish”……⁶Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. ⁷So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, “For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on the fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?” ⁸“Sir,” the man replied, leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. ⁹If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.”

CTK School is on Spring Break this week, the school office is closed.

It is time to collect the names of our 2010 Graduates. If you have a son or daughter who will graduate from 8^th grade, High School or College this spring or if they graduated last summer or fall, we need to add them to our list. BIBLE STUDY

Children’s Sunday School meets each Sunday at 9:45 in Building 3. If you attended the 6:00 pm Christmas Eve service you were blessed to hear the SS Kids Bell Choir. We have recently purchased an additional set of bells and are practicing so we can play for Palm Sunday. Please check the bulletin board in the breezeway for teacher assignment and map to locate your child’s classroom. Sunday School Offerings will be combined with CTK school chapel offering to purchase RABBITS through the Heifer Project. We collected enough in offerings last year to purchase over 1000 chicks. How many bunnies can we get by Easter? Watch for updates!

What is the next step in Jonah’s story? So far he has run the opposite direction from where God told him to go and gotten himself thrown off the boat into the sea. What us God’s next move? Bring your Bible and join us a class in one of the following locations.

TANZANIA MISSION WISH LIST: We are collecting the following items for our Mission trip to Tanzania in June. - Receiving Blankets, Bible Story pop-up books (from dollar store) and eyeglasses – READERS ONLY. There is a box located in the Narthex for your donation. THANK YOU!

Go Green and don’t forget to drop off your gently used magazines when you are done with them in the church office for waiting rooms around the city.

The 2010 MS Walk will be held on April 10 in Collierville. Check the bulletin for more details and registration information.

FELLOWSHIP

Friday night finds CTK at Billy Hardwick Lanes with a fun-loving group of folks who bowl (some good, some not-so-good). Come on by and cheer them on.

SAVE the DATE for the BANGLES & BLUE JEANS GALA – April 24, 2010 . More details in the bulletin and as the event gets closer. If you would like to help with this event, please contact Barb Wilt @ bew7420@bellsouth.net.

The Gala will be the culmination of the “Rhinestone Roundup” online auction. Check out the website ctkschool.cmarket.com. The auction will open in April and new items are being added regularly so you can preview the items, services and opportunities that will be offered. There is also and tab marked “Refer Friends” to click on to add emails of your friends and co-workers. This is a wonderful way to promote and publicize our awesome school! We are the best publicity our church and school have… so let Christ the King Lutheran Church & School’s light shine through you! Egg-citing News!

The Children’s Ministry Easter egg hunt is scheduled for Saturday, March 27^th at 2:00 p.m. We need pre-filled plastic eggs or wrapped treats/candy to fill the empty eggs collected last year. The more eggs that are brought in, the more eggs the kids get to find! There will be a box in the Narthex for your donations. Also, on the Narthex bulletin board is a volunteer sign up sheet for anyone who would like to help. Thanks!
