Christ The King Activities Calendar

This Announcement is from CTK CONNECTIONS of Christ The King Lutheran Church
CONNECTIONS - JAN. 9, 2011

Good Morning – The threat of inclement weather is once again in the forefront of local news.  The grocery stores will have a run on milk & bread and the de-icer trucks have already made their mark on the bridges and overpasses in hopes of keeping those who must be on the roads safe, if it actually happens.   Have you ever thought about your preparations for the inevitable end of life on earth?    What can you do differently in your life now to thank God for the gift of His Son and His amazing grace AND spread the WORD to others?  Each day we are given new opportunities and new beginnings. It is never too late to start!

Epiphany was this past Thursday.  The Wisemen followed the star to Bethlehem in search of the infant king.  We don’t know if they had questions between themselves, but they followed where God led without question and were among the first to realize this baby was truly the Son of God.  Sunday, we will celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord.  Read the Gospel lesson below.  Another prophetic fulfillment from the book of Isaiah. Through Jesus’ baptism and our own baptism, we are joined with Christ to live with Him always. Thank God.

 Gospel Lesson Matthew 3:13-17

13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”  15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.  16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Faith in Action:

We keep members of the armed forces in our prayers on Sunday morning and hopefully you remember them daily in your prayers and devotions.  There is another way we can show our support for our troops and that is by collecting and sending small sample size items for personal hygiene.  Troops stationed in remote areas overseas have very limited access to any of these things, so we encourage you to bring any items to the collection box in the narthex and we will make sure they get mailed out.  If you would like to help defray the cost of mailing, please consider a check for $12.50 (payable to CTK with notation in the Memo line – TROOPS)

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY – CTK is starting up its next Dave Ramsey Financial Peace class the 3rd week of January.  Look for more details to come.  If you have any questions, please contact Jackie or Ross Butler at 901-634-4362.

The Mid-South District is sponsoring a workshop for all who are passionate about children and children’s ministry.  The worship will be at Grace Celebration Lutheran Church, 8601 Trinity Road, in Cordova on January 15th from 9:30-11:30 AM.  More information is available in the church office or on the district’s website, www.mid-south.com.  Click the “Children’s Ministry” button to register or get more information.  Registration deadline – January 9 – THIS SUNDAY

GAME DAY AT CTK – Do you like playing and learning “old” and “new” games?  There has been some interest in getting a group together the last Wed. of each month in the fellowship hall (after Pastor’s AM Bible Study class) to play games;  Monopoly, Score Four, Clue, dominos, Yahtzee, card games, and any other game that you have that would be fun to learn to play.  Bring a sack lunch to munch on after class.  What a great way to fellowship and have fun during the cold winter months.  Men and women both invited.  If you are interested, please email Barbara Riley at jeanriley1@juno.com.  More specific details will be available as soon as we get information on how may are interested in participating.
