Opening Hymn, "O Day of Rest and Gladness"
(Congregation/Sarah Meyerrose -organ)

Old Testament, Jeremiah
30:7-13 (ESV)
7 Alas! That day is so great
there is none like it;
it is a time of distress for Jacob;
yet he shall be saved out of it.
8 "And it shall come to
pass in that day, declares the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from
off your neck, and I will burst your bonds, and foreigners shall no more make a
servant of him.[a]
9 But they shall serve the LORD their
God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
10 "Then fear not, O Jacob
my servant, declares the LORD,
nor be dismayed, O Israel;
for behold, I will save you from far away,
and your offspring from the land of their captivity.
Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease,
and none shall make him afraid.
11 For I am with you to save you,
declares the LORD; I will
make a full end of all the nations
among whom I scattered you,
but of you I will not make a full end.
I will discipline you in just measure,
and I will by no means leave you unpunished.
12 "For thus says the
LORD: Your hurt is incurable,
and your wound is grievous.
13 There is none to uphold your
cause,
no medicine for your wound,
no healing for you.

Epistle
, Romans 6:12--23 (ESV)(Overcoming sin by God's promised grace.)
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
